How can I keep my golf game sharp during the winter?
With me living in Wisconsin, winter is here for 6 or 7 months of the year which really sucks. I just picked up the game last summer but have caught on quick and broke 90 not too long ago. I want to keep my game sharp and maybe actually even see if I can improve on some things if that’s possible. Any tips or helpful drills that I could work on?
I live in a house where I can’t swing a club full or it will hit the ceiling. I’m guessing my basement is where I can work on putting or chipping or some sort of golf motion that I can commit to muscle memory. But what would be effective? How can I work on my putting and make the ball roll like almost a real green? Any good ways to practice chipping and making it feel and roll like the real thing? Thanks a lot!

nineadmin answers:
It can be difficult at times to find adequate places to practice, but I’m sure there are some places in your area that have indoor driving ranges, or even virtual golf courses where you could get some practice with your chipping. If your basement is the only place you can try your chipping and putting, then make use of that, you don’t need to be making full swings, chip into a bucket or a portable driving net.

What Can I Do To Improve My Game?
I shoot anywhere from a 77-83 when I golf. My strong assets are long and straight off the tee and the ability to shape shots with my golf irons(fade-draw, punch, lob). However, my short game is very up and down. Some days I can have under 30 putts and others I’ll go well over 36, Any tips on how to improve my short games, especially chipping and lag putting.

nineadmin answers:
Use all shoulders and pendulum for fringe or greens. For all short game shots from pitches to putts, keep your wrists relaxed but as if they were locked. This will improve consistency greatly. I use the triangle (keeping my arms in the same position at all times and using rotation/shoulders) for short game and all my shots actually, though it is not really necessary and I wouldn’t disturb your long game. Another tip for long, big-breaking putts: read the overall green and then at the angles of the breaks (the tangents to the curve), so you can see it all the way to the hole. I am a 3 handicap by the way, and the wrists are your best bet, with pendulum emphasis for putting.

Golf help…?
I have a very unusual golf problem… probably mental, but i want to hear what u say
I hook my drivers and 3 woods very BAD
I slice my mid-low irons
And everything in-between is perfect
Also every other part of my game is very good, like my putting, chipping, approach, and even my recovery shots (for the most part)
Literally everytime I hit off the tee it went out of bounds to the right or left depending on which club i hit… any tips?
I just went golfing today and i did terrible just cause of my drives.. bogey and doubled a lot… also the trees don’t help at all

nineadmin answers:
The hook is caused by a closed club face and inside-to-out swing path. If your club face isn’t closed at address, you probably have a faulty set-up with the ball too far back or you are failing to turn your hips and transfer weight to the left side on impact. The slice is cause by an open club-face or a faulty set-up with the ball too far forward. Also it may be cause by starting the downswing with the shoulders instead of a lateral hip movement. Something else to consider is your grip, often hooking is caused by too strong a grip with the hands too much to the right, with four knuckles of the left hand showing and slicing by too weak a grip with the hands too far to the left causing only one knuckle of the left hand to show. Hope that helps, you may need to get a professional to look at what you are doing or at least try and video tape yourself to see what you are doing.

A book on golf short game?
Does anyone know of a book on the short game in golf…but not just technique…but strategy…like when to use a wedge to chip or a 7 iron…when to hit a flop shot or bump and run. The few i’ve seen at the book store is more lessons oriented as opposed to when to use a certain shot…i really appreciate the tips.

nineadmin answers:
There are a few good golf books available on the net that provide very good tips and advice on club selection, shot technique and execution of those trickier shots, as well as chipping tips and putting lessons, I would take a look at this golf book for some good instruction.
